Bully Boy makes complexity look so simple with its Old Fashioned.
The old fashioned is the easiest drink to make and the hardest drink to make well. WIth one false step it can easily become too sweet, too dry, too bitter, not bitter enough, or, worst of all, corrupted by fruit and soda water. Like any well made cocktail, the key is balance. Just enough sweetness to complement the bitters, and just enough whiskey to make the whole thing worth drinking. You’ll find that balance in the Bully Boy Old Fashioned.
Bottled cocktails are a tough sell, primarily because half the fun of having a cocktail is in the tradition and lore of the preparation. But that complexity is what mixologists—particularly the amateur ones—love about cocktails, which could also make the uncomplicated old fashioned the ideal pre-prepared potion.
Bully Boy’s old fashioned is made with the distillery’s American Straight Whiskey, an 84 proof spirit, but the cocktail is bottled at 71.4 proof, a significant drop that we can chalk up to simple syrup and flavorings.
Bully Boy are constantly tasting cocktails. It’s part of what they do. The idea for a bottled Old Fashioned was a simple one: Bring a well made cocktail, one you might find in a great cocktail bar, straight to the living room…in this bottle.
Bully Boy Old Fashioned Serving Tips
It’s best served three fingers in a rocks glass over one large ice cube. For an enhanced taste, muddle an orange wheel in the tumbler before pouring the cocktail, and then rim the glass with an orange peel.
